Okey Samuel Mbonu grew up in Nigeria and the Washington, DC metropolitan area of the United States.

Mbonu honed his morals and skills in ethics while attending American University, and the University of District of Columbia, School of Law. He holds a Juris Doctor (Law). It was here that he learn the importance of truth, honesty, and working above board in all dealings.

After Law School, Mbonu has served as policy expert and as a Contributor to MSNBC; CNBC; Al Jazeera; NBC; and VOA. As a sought-after Nigerian policy expert and media analyst in the US; Mbonu has provided valuable insight to many major US & Global media networks and policy think tanks.

Mbonu policy expertise on international matters has been requested by members of the US Congress. Mbonu has been fortunate to travel the world and experience many cultures and governments. This travel and his love for his home country has compelled him to run for office because he believes his experiences can help mold and shape Nigeria's future.

Mbonu’s media appearances have been seen by millions of viewers in the US and overseas. He is considered one of the most influential Sub-Saharan Africa policy advisors in the US, and was designated a “Powerful and Important voice on US-Nigeria matters” by MSNBC (MSNBC, News Nation, February 14, 2015).

Mbonu is currently the president of NCAD (National Council for African Diaspora).

Mbonu had served as Co-founder and “Executive Director” at the “Nigerian-American Council” Washington DC, from 2012 to 2017.

Prior to that (2003-2007), he was the first President of “All Nigerian-American Congress”, a Washington-based community advocacy group with members across the entire United States.

From 2002 to 2007, Mbonu was appointed as “Commissioner”, Housing & Community Development, Prince George’s County, Maryland. Upon confirmation by the Legislature, Mbonu oversaw Housing policy in the second largest Housing agency in the Washington suburbs for 5 years, before transitioning back to the Washington policy circuit.
